Hey everyone -
So I have some very big news. For those of you who follow me on Twitter, you already know about it but for those of you who don’t, keep on reading below:
As of yesterday, Agents of the Realm will no longer be published with Hiveworks Comics and will now officially be 100% independently published. I have no real interest in getting into it in very deep detail. The only thing that I really want and need to say about it was that it was a very conscious decision built up on a lot of time, reflection and pause to figure out if this was truly in my best interest.
It’s been no secret - my updates have been pretty erratic for the last year or so. I consider myself a deeply private person so as things happen, I try my best to handle them behind the scenes as possible. Ultimately this means that when I’m really going through it, I have to put things on pause whether I want to or not.
The last year or so has been spent being very vigilant about getting myself out of any situation that seems unhealthy or violently toxic. I’ve walked away from work opportunities and work situations because of this, I’ve been very active in removing contacts from my life that indulge in this behavior, whether it’s directed at me or towards others. My move in and of itself was done to get me out of a toxic living situation and as chaotic and hectic as the last year has been, I don’t regret any of it.
It’s allowed me to be in a much better position to make better decisions regarding my life and the direction it’s going on. It’s been imperative for me to do this to make sure that I’m actually not only living a life I want to live, but a life that I’m happy to live. It’s meant dealing with a lot of very abusive and manipulative behavior that’s been brutal to deal with but I can, with a lot of hope, optimism and pride, say that I’ve finally gotten my life back.
To answer some questions regarding Agents -
What does this mean for Agents of the Realm?
Currently I’m working to set up my own hosting to move the entire webcomic over. Part of this process will be updating the site itself to be a hell of a lot more user friendly and streamlined to make the reading experience more enjoyable to all of my readers. This will take about a month to do, and while I wish I could promise updates during this time period, the reality is that I can’t. There’s a lot of hard work and heavy lifting I’m going to have to do to make this happen, so any updates that happen may be few and far between in the mean time.
Is Agents of the Realm going to stop?
God no. Part of the reason why I’m doing this is because I don’t want it to stop. I want to make sure that I’m publishing it in a way that’s true to the vision I have for it and that’s also in line with my own personal voice.
What does this mean for the kickstarter/books/merch/etc.?
It means, I’ll admit, that the Kickstarter’s success is more important than ever. I’m going 100% in on this and this means the priority of getting the books out there is number one on my list. It means I’ll be the one that’ll be providing anything related to the comic, and that means I’ll be able to make sure that what I’m providing is of the kind of standard and quality that both the comic and you, my readers, deserve.
The campaign ends on August 15th. That’s still plenty of time to not only get the books fully funded but get through the stretch goals as well. I’m really excited to be sharing the story with each and every one of you and really am looking to continue sharing it with the world.
If you guys have any questions, please feel free to reach me at email@example.com. I will say, however, that any questions regarding my situation with Hiveworks will not be answered. It’s becoming more important than ever for me to respect my need for privacy as I want to fully avoid making this become a more complicated situation than it needs to be.
